ELMIRA, N.Y. — The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) welcomed the Class of 2024 to its Elmira campus July 24, marking the culmination of a years-long effort to establish a medical school in New York’s Southern Tier.
LECOM at Elmira’s inaugural class, consisting of 120 osteopathic medical students, arrived on campus July 24 to complete registration before beginning the academic year and orientation programing on July 27. Their arrival signified the official opening of LECOM’s fourth campus, the first and only medical college in the region.
“To see LECOM at Elmira come to fruition and welcome its inaugural class of students to the region’s first medical school is very gratifying,” said LECOM Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Richard Terry, D.O. “It’s also exciting for LECOM to expand into New York’s Southern Tier to develop healthcare professionals for an area that greatly needs them.”
LECOM currently enrolls more than 4,400 students across all disciplines, including the College of Osteopathic Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of Dental Medicine, School of Health Services Administration and School of Graduate Studies. Today nearly 14,000 LECOM alumni are delivering quality health care to patients throughout the U.S.
